Pumpkin event a spooktacular success

Dorset welcomed 9U and 10U county teams from Hants & IoW and Devon to take part in a Pumpkin team event run over two days at The West Hants Club during the October half term.

The format of the competition was the same for the 9&U County Cup event where Teams comprised of 6 players, three boys and three girls. Each player played a singles match and then teamed up for either a girls or boys doubles, finishing with a mixed doubles match. The 9Us got the ball rolling on the first day and the event came down to the final doubles matches in the afternoon after a morning of exciting singles match ups. Team Devon clinched the title with victories over Dorset Rock (6-3), Dorset Dino’s (7-2) and Hampshire (7-2). Dorset Dino’s clinched second place.

On the second day of play, it was the 10U teams who would provide an equally closely contested competition. With singles matches finished and ties in the balance, once again the doubles matches provided an entertaining finale. Hants & IoW stopped Devon winning the double by narrowly winning the event by one rubber after both teams claimed two match wins. Hant &IOW winning 16 matches to Devon’s 15.

Organiser Shane Deacon said “It was great to see 48 players competing over the tow days in the right spirit, especially pleasing was seeing the players interact together off court. I hope one or two of them have made friends from other counties and can now talk to each other at tournaments. We look forward to hosting the event again next year and maybe even make it a bigger event”.
